  • International Doctorate in Translation Studies Meeting

The international community of translation scholars recognizes doctoral programs to be one of the most important means by which it reproduces itself, affirming and developing its academic identity.

Since its foundation, EST has been involved in supporting doctoral programs in TS (for a compilation of precedents, click here). In view of this interest and these precedents, it is proposed that an International Doctorate in Translation Studies be established, initially as a network of stakeholders, based on the principles set out in the draft document that can be found here.

August 2014: Interested representatives of doctoral programs are invited to participate in an initial meeting to be held on August 27-29, 2014, in Leuven, Belgium.

    Provisional program:
    • August 27: agree on a founding document
    • August 27: determine the founding members of the network
    • August 28-29: provide a two-day course in doctoral supervision techniques, upon completion of which participants will receive a certificate endorsed by EST; confirmed speakers C. Schaeffner (Aston University), B. Baer (Kent State)

    Interested? Please enroll here.

  • Global Hamlet Project

Wioletta Wegorowska, Executive Director at Santander Group European Universities' Network, would like to inform the AOG members of the following:

“I’m writing to you today with a proposal we’ve received from the Sapienza University of Rome regarding a project proposal that is being prepared by them for Creative Europe Grant. The project co-ordinator Nefeli Misuraca would like to invite partners from SG members from the following countries – France, Belgium, Portugal, and Germany. This is the reason why I’m writing to selected partners. Below you will find information about the EU grant and also the Global Hamlet Project as such.

We have been working at our fundraising and are now at work with Andrea Riccio to assess the feasibility of the European Cooperation subprogramme of the main call for the Creative Europe Grant that has just come out and has a very close deadline - March 5th. Our intention would be to ask for a larger scale funding, up to 2 mil. euros over 2 years, in order to complete the Global Hamlet project. 10 different institutions, from six European countries, are needed to file the grant proposal: Westminster in England and a couple of institutions in Spain, meanwhile, have shown interest in participating and La Sapienza might be the leading partner. All of the participant Universities will receive part of the grant in amounts that will range between 50k and 250k euros, according to the nature and duration of their involvement.

Should you be interested in this proposal or have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact Nefeli Misuraca n.misuraca@globalhamlet.org directly.
